I have to say, writing a good tutorial and
seeing positive comments
and results from others is a very satisfying feeling.
This did not happen for me over night.
The information that you will be receive will help
you tremendously.
It explains style, structure, do's and don'ts and has
a exercise
page with GHOST ANSWERS..
ewwww... Don't be scared! LOL
Do not forget to check out the links and files sections
on our
group site for a lot more goodies! WEEeee!
Below is a little about
how the group process will flow.
"You have to give to receive
philosophy".
Hone your skills by testing others tutorials as well as
writing
your own and having them tested.
Doing both are a part of the writing skills needed to
become
a great tutorial author. You can learn a lot of what not
to do
yourself by spotting problems with others tutorials when
you test.
Tip.. if you'll test mine, I'll test yours.
Again it is important to do both... reap what you sow.
In this group you have a spot to work on your tutorial
skills
by studying the lessons, writing your tutorials and
going back
through the lessons to double check yourself.
It is easy to overlook things when you are the one that has
written a tutorial.. so you have to become a stranger to
your
own tutorial or look at it with the attitude that you
have never
seen your tutorial and do not know what to expect.
You have to scrutinize every step.
Every time you have to click the mouse button or press a
keyboard
key... does your tutorial have all these moves stated?
That is probably the biggest single tip I can give you.
Once you have a tutorial written and pre-tested by yourself
and can no longer find corrections to be made, send it
into the group
with the tutorial name and "Ready for Testing" in the
subject line.
Always reply in a positive manner to those that do test your
tutorials. If you can not say anything nice, just say
something
like thank you for testing that for me and for your
suggestions.
Leave it at that.
If more than one person mentions the same thing as a problem or
suggestion then you should set aside your personal
feelings and take
notice.. they probably are making a good suggestion that
you should
not overlook. A hard part of being tested in the
beginning is the
ability to take criticism in a positive manner. Once you
learn to do
that you will make great strides in your tutorial
writing skills.
Remember, people are taking time to try to help you in
the best way
they know how.. do not be offended by peoples attempts
to help you!
Be aware, if you have not studied the lessons sent to
you and
available in the files section and send in poorly
written tutorials
less people might feel you did not put the work into it
so why should
they? Make sense to you?
You will see me in here at times to comment and check on the groups
activity. I have about 5.000 members and a bunch my
groups to look over,
write lessons, answer helps, write tutorials and courses
so my time is
pretty well tied up just to give you an idea.. I am one
heck of a busy
guy! This group is designed for the members to be a
partnership with each
other and my knowledge is shared in the lessons to the
best of my ability.
Look at what all you will get!
1 Lessons, tips and
methods for writing an effective, user friendly and proven professional
style of tutorial in the
popular HootyTut© style.
2 Paint Shop Pro - Letter Creator icons to use in your tutorials!
3 Lifetime membership to the workshop group!
4 Using my personal judgment, if your tutorials are written well and have
something to offer members of my other Hooty Groups, your tutorial may be
distributed to offer you exposure to almost 5,000
members so you can be known as a tutorial author, get fan mail and
see their creations from using your tutorials if they apply to the group
interests! WEEeee!
How cool is that!
OE, Outlook and Incredimail, Paint Shop Pro .. all users welcome!
