Workin’ On It!

Hootytut© by Doyle Allen aka Hooty 6/23/04

Approved by the HootyTutTesters group!

Needed:

1 Paint Shop Pro (I used 8, if you are familiar with

Paint Shop Pro7...intermediate skills you can do it too.)

2 You need the tut layers template

Click Here to download it!

3 A graphic the shape of the black spot

in the template.

===================== =============

1  Open Paint Shop Pro and open the tutorial layers template.

Do not alter the order or settings on the

layers palette unless told.

Shift + D to duplicate

Close the original template.

2  Open a graphic which should be a similar

shape/size as the black rectangle you see

on the template.

3  Edit / Copy

4  Close your graphic

We will not need it anymore.

5  Ctrl + Shift + L

(or Edit / Paste / Paste into selection)

Note: Adjust/Sharpness / Sharpen if needed.

6  Ctrl + D (or Selections / Select None)

7  Layers / Duplicate

8  Effects / Art Media Effects / Black Pencil

Settings:

As for the Detail, you want to adjust the setting

so there is mainly the outlines of the images

in your graphic showing but not so much of the

background. Depending on the graphic that you

use will determine how strong or weak you need

to go. Use that preview window and the spyglass

icons on the left – for smaller and + for larger,

or click on the autoproof eye icon on the right

to see your graphic change with the settings.

Opacity = 100 ( if you lowered the opacity the

layer underneath would be exposed so leave

it where it is.

Note: It’s ok to have the embossed white look.

Think of it as the artists’ preliminary work done

in thick white primer.

9  X (Eraser Tool)

Tip: Dry Brush tip or another of your choosing .

Settings:

With the dry brush tip you can swipe back

and forth, left and right while holding the

left mouse button down and get a really

kewl painters effect.

To bring certain areas out more shorten your

swipes to a more concentrated area.

Tips:  Change the size of your eraser to suit you.

  You should probably end with about

50-70 % of the total graphic exposed.

  You may want to lower the opacity of the

layer to see clearer what parts you want

to erase.. don't forget to put it back to 100%

when you are done though! LOL

10  Layers / Merge / Merge Visible

11 Effects / 3D Effects / Drop Shadow

Settings:

Horizontal & Vertical both = 3

Opacity = 30, Blur =3 Color = Black

Shadow on new layer = Unchecked!

12 Repeat Drop Shadow

Same settings except H & V = (minus) -3

12  Layers / Arrange / Send to Bottom

                               then

       Layers / Arrange / Move up

 (You could just click and drag into position

if you know how to manually do that)

13  Now you need to decide what you are

going to use for a background..

 If you are going to need a color(s) off your

graphic with the eyedropper do it now.

14  Turn off your Merged layer on your

layers palette.

15  Turn on the BG Green Layer and

make it your active layer

16  Magic Wand: Select the green area.

Settings:

17 Selections / Modify / Expand = 1

18  Use fills,texture, patterns, gradient or

other of your choice to your background.

19  Ctrl + D

(or Selections / Select None)

20  Ctrl + A (or Selections / Select All)

21  Selections / Modify / Contract = 5

22 Ctrl + Shift + i  (or Selections / Invert)

23  Effects / 3D Effects / Inner Bevel

Settings:

Bevel #2, Width = 5

Smoothness = 3, Depth = 3, Ambience = 10,

Shinniness = 0,

Color = White, Angle = 315, Intensity = 50,

Elevation = 30

24  Ctrl + D   (or Selections / Select None)

25  Now turn all the layers on so you can

see what you have.

 This is the time to make any changes

that you would like to make.

Note: One of the testers Colorized the

brushes and paint palette to make the

colors match the graphic she used.

It did look great!

26  Layers / Merge / Merge All (Flatten)

27  T (Text Tool):

Add Bold text left of the palette, add a bevel

or/and drop shadow if you like.

28  Layers / New Raster Layer to add

your watermark.

29  Layers / Merge / Merge All

30  Save as a header, or resize 65%

and save as a tag.

Sharpen etc if needed or wanted.

Remember to Watermark your creations!
